What do Al Capone, "Machine Gun" Kelly, and Robert "The Birdman" Stroud have in common? They were all inmates at Alcatraz, the infamous Federal prison on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay.
Located in the San Francisco Bay Alcatraz has a mean that is unique in the world of prisons. It held some very famous people some of which are: Al Capone, "Machine Gun" Kelly, and Robert "The Birdman" Stroud. Much of this made the prison on Alcatraz Island infamous. When you visit the prison you take a nice short boat ride to the island. Once you get on the island you can see the distance between you and the shore you left.
